The Nature of Addiction
For the observer it is important to have some perception of what it must be like to be addicted to drugs. Most textbooks, somewhat objectively, describe addiction in terms of the withdrawal symptoms experienced during prolonged abstinence but this approach falls far short of explaining why a drug addicts find it virtually impossible to rid themselves of the habit and thus why drug addiction is perceived as such a menace to society.
