Punishment
Addicts nevertheless do not conform to normal standards and it is very easy for a person charged with their treatment to react with hatred and malice. This is dangerous and counterproductive, and it is ill considered to punish.
The most effective way to correct deviant behavior is by discussion or by example, even if initially tempers may become somewhat frayed.
By rejecting an addict one is almost certainly returning him or her to the dealers, and the likelihood of this person ever returning for help at any clinic diminishes considerably.
